Open Letter to US Admirals of Pacific Fleet [creditdiagnosis]

In an appearance at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, said that falling demand for Asian exports means the region will have to rely on public spending, such as infrastructure, health, education and energy reforms. He said that with some US$ 4 trillion in foreign exchange reserves, large current account surpluses and low inflation, Asia is well placed to expand public spending, which can help it maintain robust growth. He called on Japan, with trillion in reserves, to adopt a more expansionary stance on monetary policy, and to make long term yen credit lines more readily available to countries in the Asia-Pacific in the region to help boost growth.

Quick Question for the US Admirals of the Pacific Fleet.

May I please ask; Why on Earth do you allow Chinese Products in United States Navy Commissaries on US Naval Bases? Especially when the Chinese Government told a US Aircraft Carrier that it could not enter a Taiwan Harbor to dock of US Navy personnel to take leave? The other day during the Holidays, I was with my folks and we stopped in at the Navy Exchange and Commissary to get some good deals on some food, I saw all sorts of products, all made in China.

This is unacceptable as China, has sponsored hackers to infiltrate our US Military IT Systems and China has sold weapons to Iran. China shot down a satellite putting Space Debris into orbit, jeopardizing US Military Communications. China is also known to have no less than 6,000 spies in the US presently, stealing technological secrets from both the private and public sectors, that includes the US Military.

Now, please realize that I am no lightweight when it comes to international affairs and yes, I understand the game and how it is played at all levels and why the US needs good relations with China.

But, too I do remember some poisonous pet food, tooth paste and fish food protein coming into our nation and we all know about the lead based paint in our toys that are imported.

It appears to me that at bare minimum the US Military can refuse to sell Chinese Products in the US Military Commissaries. Our nation's consumers do enough to support the Chinese Military by the products they are already buying. Allowing Chinese Products to be sold in the US Navy Base Commissaries is a spit in the face to our service men and women and their families.

I am appalled and disgusted.

Sincerely, Lance

Question by LaikaLuna: Any experienced Asian Pacific travelers out there? I will be traveling to three countries this fall: Philippines, South Korea, and Japan, so I have a few questions that I have in mind. This will be my first time traveling out of the country. 1. Where do I go to get the best exchange rates (ie. ATM, post office, bank)? And do I have to tell my bank that I'll be out of the country in order to take my credit cards with me? 2. Is it possible to ship things back home from foreign military bases without being charged international shipping prices. For instance, are there any USPS in South Korea that will allow me to ship things back to San Diego and pay the same amount as if shipping Continental? Best answer for Any experienced Asian Pacific travelers out there?:

Answer by Faith
I've been in South Korea and Japan. 1, My experience, I used bank. ATM was high, and even banks had different exchange rate so you can shop around. Of course, there is black market for exchanging currencies. However, please be safe and go to bank. It never entered my mind that I can go to the post office for foreign currencies. You definitely talk to the credit card company that you will be traveling out side of countries and maybe it will be a good idea you tell your bank if you maybe planning on making ATM money withdraw, too. I didn't tell the bank but I didn't use my personal debit card to withdraw the money. Instead when I tried to use my credit card, because I was using my cards in different country I had to wait a long time ( more than an hour ) for them to actuall call my house to verify. 2. Sorry. Don't have anwer for this one. Have a nice time traveling. Fall is a nice time for the travel to these countries.
