I’ve mentioned scammers and such on some of my articles, and the truth is they seldom seen. In this day, it is hard to pull off a scam over the internet because there are so many consumer protections in place. Credit cards have protections against identity theft, Paypal is an amazingly secure little place to do transaction, and some companies are even putting in scam protection for ebay shoppers and the like. Good, legitimate sites, no matter what you are buying will take plenty of steps to make sure that you are well taken care of and have nothing to worry about. Even sites like Amazon.com, who are just the middle-man for a variety of places, are really anal about the people they work with.

We are in a special category of that sort of thing, though. There is no official support for what we do, so if anything happens to our money, we are mostly on our own.

NCSoft certainly will not be helping us out. That means we have to use whatever else we have at our disposal to keep safe.

Well, someone I know pretty well through Rift wasn’t thinking along these lines last week when he decided to buy rift account from a site he just found.

It was the first site he found when he searched for a place to Buy Rift Accounts, he didn’t take any time to read any reviews or do any other sort of research, and they asked for a money order instead of anything else.

Another tip-off should have been their claims. They were talking about real cheap Rift Accounts, which just doesn’t have an equivalent in the market. There is no way you can convince me that was legit, but I’m an old hand at this.

So he hopped on and set up to buy Rift account, then sent a money order away. They said he’d hear from them in 2 days to confirm his character name and set up the drop. Over the next 2 days, he got tons of emails, but none of them had anything to do with the rift account. To this day there has been no further contact, and the site itself has been shut down, so it’s going to be impossible to trace.

So I suggest to do your research before buying anything online.

Please, please, please be careful out there. Buy Rift account safely. Stay safe until next time. Related Buying A Rift Account Articles

Question by sleep2dream82: Question about an old Best Buy credit account that I need to cancel.? In 2004, I had a Best Buy credit card. In 2006, I canceled my account over the phone. Recently I looked at my credit report, and the account was still open! They never closed it! I called the number for the bank (BENEFICIAL NATIONAL BANK, Wilmington, DE, (302) 478-9056) and the number was out of service. How should I go about closing this account once and for all? Best answer for Question about an old Best Buy credit account that I need to cancel.?:

Answer by dyna05babe
Usualy you need to do this in writing. I would send a letter to them at the address on the credit report. Request that they cancel the account. That should do it.

I had the same thing happen with a store credit card. I contacted the store, and they closed it (and made it retroactive to my first request). Then, follow up on them.

If you don't owe a balance on the account, you have not lost the card, and the account is in good standing, then you really have no need to close it. Having an open trade line will usually help your FICO score. A lot of people get bad advice that they should close all of their inactive accounts. This is not necessarily the best thing to improve your credit score, and can often lower your score. Here is why: Part of the FICO equation takes into account the average length of time that your accounts have been open. If you have an account that has been open for four years, and you close it, it may result in a shorter average time for open accounts, which lowers your score. Also, the amount of credit utilization (outstanding balances) divided by the amount of available credit (limits) is a factor that affects your credit score. If you had $ 2,000 in open credit on the Best Buy card, and you close it. Now, your utilization rate is automatically going to be higher, because you lowered your available credit by the amount of the credit limit on the card. Finally, the number of open trade lines will usually help more than it hurts. Many lenders, especially mortgage lenders, want to see at least three to six open trade lines for more than one to two years. If you still want to close the account, contact Best Buy, and ask for the best method to contact their current credit issuer. Good luck!

There should be contact information on the credit bureau report. This is an unusual situation because Best Buy does not issue credit cards. They have a "private label" arrangement with a finance company. It used to be Household Finance.

You may do more damage than good by cancelling an account that was in good standing if that is the case.
