Trade Unions - A Short Review [creditdiagnosis]

Trade Unions - A Short Review [creditdiagnosis]

Question by : Why can't we run health care like a credit union? Private insurance companies don't work because they make their profit by giving you the least health care they can get away with, while charging the highest prices possible. If the company gives the customer what they want, the company doesn't make a profit, and vice versa. The government solution may be cheap for now, but so far the plans that Congress has come up with will involve adding a trillion dollars to the deficit over the next ten years, and probably more after that. What I think we need is a cooperative arrangement like a credit union, where the goal is not to make a profit but to provide the maximum service for the least money spent. So why hasn't anyone done this? Your thoughts? Best answer for Why can't we run health care like a credit union?:

Because, though a lot of health care costs are insurance, hospitals are expensive. And cannot be run on a nonprofit, or low profit system. If we do it your way, we have no money to pay for new technology and new research. And doctors are expensive to train, and no matter how much money we put in, we can't train more doctors any faster.

Or a bank. Yeah, let's run it like a bank or a savings and loan. That works well.

The trillion dollars spent is money that would be spent and more if reform does not take place. First of all, Obama is not going to bring in universal healthcare, a fact that many people (including those who voted for him) seem not to realise. He wants to make insurance more available to all. Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.

In some ways we do. Here in Maryland, for example the biggest insurer is CareFirst. "CareFirst, Inc. is the not-for-profit, non-stock.. " I think the problem is that in most cases, the consumer doesn't choose his plan, its chosen by his employer. Also, since the consumer often doesn't pay for his costs (other than small co-pays), he doesn't have incentive to save money. This doesn't bother him, but adds to the overall cost to the system.

Laborers are the most vulnerable group of our society. They spare each moment of their life time working for others. They will spend their whole life in mines, industries, streets and so on. Earlier they voiceless, no one ever cared for them or regarding their rights. But in later years, things changed and a revolutionary differentiation has occurred has occurred all over the world to organize and join under a single group for the welfare of laborers.

A trade union can be defined as a union of laborers banded under a single leadership so as to get to their common aims including good working environment. A lot of things will come under the union. They include, work rules, procedures, hiring rules, promotion and occupational personal protection and safety policies etc.

In fact, industrial revolution has led the trade unions to be popular in Europe to a greater extent.

During these years, the employees were very badly treated and underpaid and this has led to the strengthening of groups working for workers welfare. The unions always lay stress on improvement or maintain ace of employees working environment. In the last few years the labor unions in US or in the entire Europe has took several forms based on the difference in their political aims and objectives. Some of the major areas of their activities include:

Benefits and provision for health care: the members are provided with a wide range of financial as well as health benefits including insurance. They will be even aided with expenses for any illness, old age, unemployment and funerals.

The union membership also provides professional training, legal assistance and representations for the members so as to improve their working as well as living environment.

Collective bargaining and working together for common industrial actions are some of the common aspects of trade unions. They are also very keen at political activity and they carry out campaigns and even lock outs so as to gain their goals.
